"Government's duty is to create European Serbia"
According to the government, she also noted that her cabinet's task is "to create a European Serbia - while the decision on Serbia's EU membership will be made by the EU member states."
In Sarajevo, at the Annual Meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Brnabic said that the process of EU accession is of great importance due to economic reforms, the rule of law and political stability in the Western Balkans region, but that accession does not only depend on candidate countries.
At the panel on the Western Balkans, where other leaders from the region attended, the Prime Minister pointed out that "the journey to the EU is as important as the destination," adding that her goal as the Prime Minister is to implement reforms in the fastest possible way.
Reforms lead to substantial changes such as more efficient and transparent state administration, the fight against corruption and organized crime, the creation of space for free media, more intensive talks with civil society. This is a European path and that means a European Serbia, Brnabic underlined.
She said that all countries should implement these reforms before joining the EU, because if EU accession is a political decision, then both the EU and that state are losing equally because it is not sufficiently prepared for the European market.
