Wood architecture on display in Tivoli Park

Ljubljana – A variety of buildings made of wood or with wood has been put on display at Jakopič Promenade in Ljubljana’s Tivoli Park. Wood Architecture Today for Tomorrow features an innovative, sustainable and inspirational use of wood in construction on 80 panels until the end of April.

The types of buildings on display range from school buildings and sport arenas to family homes, blocks of flats and tourist apartments, all using wood in different ways.

Featured are projects by Slovenian architects and construction engineers, including the ones which received the national wood construction award last year.

The award was given out in 2020 for the third year by the Economy Ministry’s wood industry directorate and the SPIRIT public agency, which sponsor the exhibition.

The Slovenian projects nominated for the EU’s architecture 2022 Mies Van Der Rohe Award, and this year’s Prešeren Fund Prize winners are also on display.

Wood is key to contemporary trends in sustainable architecture, which reduces the impact of CO2 on the environment, Open House Slovenia, a project promoting the awareness about architecture, says on its website.

What is more, compared to classical construction, buildings that use wood are constructed faster and use less energy while being more pleasant to live in.

Open House Slovenia also points to the European Commission’s New European Bauhaus initiative, which aims at enhancing green transition by putting architecture and architects in the focus of the transition to a more sustainably economy and society.
