Prime Minister: Bulgaria Is Prepared to Deal with New Wave of Coronavirus, Country Has Army of Vaccinated Medics

Bulgaria expects 230,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of this week and 700,000 doses by the end of April. Sufficient amounts of Remdesivir are provided, which is used in the treatment of coronavirus, the health system also has all the necessary medications, disinfectants and oxygen for the treatment of patients with the novel virus.

This was reported at a working meeting with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, attended by Health Minister Kostadin Angelov and representatives of the National Operational HQ, the government information service reported.

"The state is prepared for this new wave of coronavirus. That's why we vaccinated the doctors and medical professionals first so we could have an army to stand up to the challenge  and heal people. All the necessary medicines are provided because for us the most important thing is the health and wellbeing of the patients", said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov during the meeting.

The prime minister refuted the fake news about the introduction of a state of emergency and new restrictions in the country. 'We have fulfilled our commitment and have secured the necessary funding to deal with the coronavirus by May. The next government and parliament will decide how to continue funding the system in the future. This is democracy," the Prime Minister said, adding that everything needed has been done to hold safe parliamentary elections.

Borissov also pointed out that more than 10,000 vials of Remdesivir are expected by the end of the week, and for the drug's purchase the government has allocated BGN 80 million. The Prime Minister stressed that the funds for the additional remuneration of all frontline workers in the battle with COVID-19 were also provided.
