Bulgaria’s Prime Minister: New Millions Poured into Pre-School Education, EC Donates 134,000 Rapid Antigen Tests
"We have fulfilled our commitment to introduce compulsory pre-school education for children from the age of four and today we are allocating an extra 1.5 million to the first 52 municipalities in the country, which created conditions for such education in kindergartens," stated Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at today's cabinet sitting.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the extra funds were earmarked for more than 4,000 children. Borisov also noted that a total of BGN 36 million are planned for 4-year-olds in kindergartens.
"The measure is part of our management program and part of our efforts to effectively include more children in the education system. Research shows that children from vulnerable groups who are included earlier have much lower knowledge deficit, the majority of them have access to high school education and drop out less often from the education system", said Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev.
The Minister reminded that after the legislative changes adopted last year, municipalities have the opportunity to decide within three years when to participate.
For his part, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov reminded that thanks to the mechanism launched by the government, over 50,000 children were returned or enrolled for the first time in a kindergarten or school.
Regarding vaccination, the following text was posted on Borissov's Facebook account:
The vaccination campaign is ramped up with more than 200,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines being ensured after 151,000 more vaccines arrived today. In April, we expect to receive over 700,000 doses.
