Law on breastfeeding in public spaces promulgated

Bucharest, June 30 /Agerpres / - President Klaus Iohannis promulgated on Wednesday a law on breastfeeding in public spaces. The law stipulates that prohibiting in any way breastfeeding a child in the public space or the eviction from the public space of a mother breastfeeding a child is a contravention. Other contraventions under the new law: evicting from a public space of a mother who has the right to be in that space and who is breastfeeding a child; prohibiting, in any way, the breastfeeding of children in public spaces; refusing to provide services to a person because she is breastfeeding a child, provided that the person has the right to benefit from such service. The contraventions set up by the law are fineable between 100 lei and 500 lei, if the misdeed is committed by a natural person and between 1,000 lei and 2,000 lei, if the misdeed is committed by a legal person or by a registered entity with the National Companies Registry Office. In charge with ascertaining a contravention and applying a sanction under the new law are authorised officers of the National Consumer Protection, the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the local Police, as the case may be.
