Janez Mravljak appointed head of recovery office
Ljubljana, 29 July – The government has appointed Finance Ministry official Janez Mravljak to head the newly founded Recovery and Resilience Office as acting director starting from 2 August.
The office was founded on 3 June under the Finance Ministry and Minister Andrej Šircelj put forward Mravljak for acting director based on a competition procedure. He was appointed for a term ending by 1 February 2022 at the latest, the Government Communication said after Wednesday’s correspondence session.
According to information on Linkedin, Janez Mravljak has been employed as certified accountant with the Finance Ministry for more than 16 years.
Asked for more details, the ministry told the STA that for the past 15 years he had been acquiring experience and skills in financial management of EU funds, with an emphasis on the Cohesion Fund in the current and previous EU budgeting periods.
He graduated in economics and earned his master’s degree in finance and management from the Maribor Faculty of Economics and Business.
The new office will coordinate and manage the implementation of the national recovery and resilience plan, which was formally endorsed by the Council of the EU earlier this week.
The whole plan is valued at EUR 2.5 billion, of which almost EUR 1.8 billion in grants and over EUR 700 million in loans. The funds will come from the EU’s recovery mechanism.
The office will oversee the creation of a system to implement the plan, coordinate and run its implementation, monitor, check and confirm milestones and targets and conduct oversight.
The office will moreover coordinate the plan with the European Commission and provide data to it, and manage funds to implement the plan.
