Luka Koper’s H1 revenue, net profit up

Koper – Port operator Luka Koper generated EUR 114.7 million in net sales revenue in the first six months of the year, which is up 7% compared to the same period last year. Net profit increased by 2% to EUR 15.4 million, and operating profit (EBIT) was up 3% to EUR 17.7 million.

Sales revenue was 5% above plan, net profit by 49% and EBIT by 51%, reads the group’s unaudited report.

Transshipment of general cargo was up by 2% year-on-year to 10.4 million tonnes, which is 1% above plan. About 1% more cargo than planned was loaded onto ships and 3% more unloaded.

Containers were the main type of cargo and their share in transshipment was up by two percentage points compared to last year.

The shares of bulk and liquid cargo were both two percentage points lower. The shares of general cargo and cars were up by one percentage point.

In the first half of this year, 5.1 million tonnes of containers or 7% more than in the first half of 2020 were transshipped along with 2.7 million tonnes of bulk cargo (down 5%), 1.5 million tonnes of liquid cargo (down 10%), almost 561,000 tonnes of general cargo (up 18%) and over 541,000 tonnes of cars (up 25%).

A total of 512,773 containers were transshipped at the port of Koper, up 7% year-on-year, and 330,613 cars, up 22%.

“Despite the harsher business conditions and the Covid-19 pandemic in the first half of 2021, the Luka Koper group increased container transshipment. The increase in container transshipment is a result of increased consumption of electronic devices and other products of general consumption, and partly also due to a further increase in production of the car industry,” the group said.

The core company’s net sales revenue rose by 7% to EUR 112.7 million, net profit was up by 5% to EUR 15.7 million, and EBIT by 3% to EUR 17.4 million.

Luka Koper allocated EUR 30.1 million for investment at the group level in the first six months, which is a 84% growth year-on-year.

Some major strategic investments were carried out in the January-June period, including a new parking garage, a new entrance for trucks, the extension of the operational shore of the container terminal and the purchase of terminal equipment.

Given the economic forecasts for its key markets and the increased Covid-19 vaccination rate, the group expects to meet the targets for this year.

Luka Koper employed 1,691 people at the end of June, including 1,528 at the core company.
