Mladina says coalition should take initiative

Ljubljana – The latest Mladina editorial says Janšism is the main problem of Slovenian society and of any government that tries to oppose it, adding that PM Robert Golob does not have a single political heavyweight by his side who has already fought political battles with his predecessor Janez Janša. The coalition should take initiative, it notes.

Mladina notes that several previous prime ministers, such as Borut Pahor, Miro Cerar and Marjan Šarec, were calm and collected when they took office, but later became bitter and insecure due to Janša’s moves.

“And already Golob is nervous, grumbling, and in his helplessness he is fuming at his allies (for example Milan Kučan, who warns that it is not good to have people from the same party in all important positions – a legitimate remark).”

The new coalition thought that once they started working, the “opposition grumbler” would fade into the background, but the weekly notes that this has never happened before because Janša is no opposition grumbler but “an opponent that sees politics as a way to conquer the country”, and he sees “Golob as someone who has stripped him of what belongs to him”.

“He thinks militarily. For him, the war started on election day. Janša has an extremely powerful team, a large propaganda and media apparatus, people in all ministries and offices. And he is doing exactly what he always does.”

Golob has vowed he will tackle Janšism, but since the election Janša has been taking the lead. So far, not many opportunities have been missed, but it is up to Golob and his coalition partners, Tanja Fajon and Luka Mesec, to take the initiative, says the editorial titled Replay.
