President Pahor attending ceremonial events for Queen Elizabeth II

London/Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor will travel to London on Sunday to pay his respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II at ceremonial events before attending her state funeral on Monday.

At the invitation of the new King Charles III and other members of the British royal family, Pahor will pay tribute to the Queen in Westminster Hall where she has been lying in state since Wednesday, the president’s office said.

He will also sign a book of condolences for the Queen at Lancaster House and attend a grand reception for world leaders in the evening that will be hosted by King Charles III. Numerous world leaders are expected to gather at Buckingham Palace in memory of Britain’s longest serving monarch.

Some 500 representatives of foreign governments are expected to attend the funeral that will take place at Westminster Abbey.

At 8pm British summer time or 9pm Central European Time, people across the UK and around the world will observe a minute’s silence to pay tribute to the Queen, who has reigned for seven decades.

In Slovenia, the lights illuminating Ljubljana Castle will be switched off for one minute at 9pm, after which the castle will light up in purple and silver, the colours associated with the royal family, to honour the Queen.

The British Embassy in Ljubljana has invited everyone to join the minute of silence.

The famous Lipica Stud Farm will dedicate its Sunday performance to the Queen. Before the show by the Lipica Riding School, there will be a minute’s silence with an homage to Elizabeth II featuring an offspring of a Lipizzan stallion given to the Queen as a gift during her official visit to Slovenia in 2008.
