Vucic: Over 3,000 firearms handed in, stronger police presence in schools

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said over 3,000 pieces of firearms and tens of thousands of bullets of various calibres had been handed in by Serbian citizens to date in a government campaign in the wake of last week's deadly shootings in Belgrade and Mladenovac.

That is good news, Vucic told Pink TV, adding that the campaign was important for Serbia even though he had known many would be angered by it.

"We have ensured large police presence in schools, and the reactions from parents and teachers alike have been positive. Teachers will now have greater rights... and children will no longer be able to act like bullies," Vucic said.

He also announced an urgent recruitment of new police officers.
