Parliament to make decision on Sweden NATO bid in fall: Erdoğan

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said the Turkish Parliament has the final say on approval of Sweden's NATO membership bid and would make its decision when the legislative sessions resume.

Speaking to reporters following a cabinet meeting in the capital Ankara on July 24, Erdoğan said Türkiye will fulfill its responsbility once the parliament resumes from a summer recess in the fall.

"We will do our part when the parliament resumes," he said.

We made our warnings concerning not only terrorism but also Islamophobia, which spreads like a plague in the West. The steps to be taken mutually about Sweden's membership to the Alliance were laid out in a joint statement. We will do our part once the parliament opens. The Grand National Assembly of Türkiye has the final say on the membership protocols. We have no doubts whatsoever that our MPs will act conscientiously and do whatever our country's interests necessitate," he added.
