Vucic: Elections may be held on December 17

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on Wednesday evening parliamentary and provincial elections as well as local elections in Belgrade and some municipalities in Serbia would be held simultaneously and that the ruling Serbian Progressive Party was ready for December 17 as the most likely election date.

Vucic said this in an interview for the RTS.

"I have received a letter from the opposition - let me give an official response. I have spoken with several people, some are in favour and some are against (holding elections). I do not think it is a crucial topic at this time but you must respect democracy and opposition parties, whatever you might think about their work, and I am not someone who is delighted with their work - I am saying this as President of Serbia and not a party member."
