The challenge for universities

The first big step toward opening up universities by allowing the establishment of private ones has been taken. 

The crucial point will be, after the reform is passed, to implement it in a way that will justify the goal of upgrading Greek higher education and making it more outward-looking.

The guarantees foreseen in the bill should be respected to ensure that the new non-state universities will be at least equal to the state-funded ones.
