No need for another floating LNG unit

A possible investment in a floating liquid natural gas (LNG) storage unit in the Pagasetic Gulf is not likely to be implemented due to lack of sustainable economic and political support, Environment and Energy Minister Thodoros Skylakakis told Parliament on Monday.

A New Democracy and a SYRIZA deputy had called on him to respond to a decision by the Regulatory Authority of Waste, Energy and Water, which had approved such an investment "against the views of the local community, local government and scientific agencies."

The minister responded: "My opinion is that this specific investment comes at a time when Greece has covered - has more than covered - its needs in LNG through the Revithoussa and Alexandroupoli stations.
