Thessaloniki: Store Discovered with Over 5,000 Counterfeit Clothing and Footwear Items – Two Arrests

The Northern Greece Economic Police Directorate discovered a clothing store in Thessaloniki with a showroom on the mezzanine level containing counterfeit clothing and footwear bearing protected trademarks of well-known brands.

The store owner and an employee were arrested and charged with felonies, including forgery and violations of product market regulations. Additionally, the owner was fined the prescribed administrative penalty.

The investigation began with the proper utilization of informational data. During the subsequent search of the showroom, 5,138 counterfeit clothing and footwear items were found and confiscated. A personal search of the employee revealed and seized 980 euros.

Furthermore, the counterfeit items did not have legal documentation or contracts with legitimate companies. They had tags displaying extremely high prices, comparable to those of genuine products.

The total potential damage, according to expert reports from the product companies, exceeds 357,000 euros.

The arrested individuals were brought before the relevant prosecuting authority.
