In an interview with the American network CNN regarding the devastating fire that struck Attica, the President of SYRIZA-PS, Stefanos Kasselakis, expressed his thoughts. During the American news network’s report from the burned area, Kasselakis, standing in front of the building where a female worker was found charred, stated:

“Do you believe that this is merely a political dispute? Someone’s mother could have been inside here. We are in Athens, a city with 4 million inhabitants. This could have been anyone’s parent.

This is not a case where the government is managing the situation ideally, and I came here to engage in cheap political confrontation to score points. We are dealing with a harsh reality. Last year, we had the largest wildfire in decades across the entire European Union. Why does this happen every year?”
