Rebellion from Famelos: Refuses to resign as head of Syriza’s parliamentary group, announces candidacy for the position

Sokratis Famellos refuses to step down as the head of SYRIZA’s Parliamentary Group and is calling for a vote of no confidence from the party’s MPs, significantly raising the tension within SYRIZA. He demands that the parliamentary rules be applied, which include a vote of no confidence, and criticizes what he describes as “introspection” due to Kasseλakis’s choices.

According to reports, Socrates Famellos stated during his address that this proposal leads to even greater internal strife, adding that real problems are not solved with surprises and dismissals.

As he observed, the Parliamentary Group (K.O.) has been operating with unity and solidarity for the past 11 months, producing significant parliamentary work. He emphasized that the K.O. is not the problem and, according to reports, the proposal for his replacement does not correct mistakes or address real problems but instead worsens the situation.

Famellos reportedly made it clear that he would not resign, requesting that the procedures outlined in the K.O.’s operating charter be followed, specifically that the motion of no confidence against him be put to a secret vote.

Earlier, Stefanos Kasselakis had proposed Nikos Pappas as the head of SYRIZA’s K.O., with the apparent goal of controlling the dynamics within SYRIZA’s Central Committee. This comes as Pavlos Polakis has announced his intention to submit a motion of no confidence to initiate proceedings for electing a new party president.

Kasselakis also announced radical changes to the Presidium of SYRIZA’s Parliamentary Group, selecting members from his circle of staunch supporters.

The new parliamentary representatives are:

  • Yiannis Sarakioitis
  • Nina Kassimati
  • George Gavrilis

Replacing:

  • Nikos Pappas
  • Theofilos Xanthopoulos
  • Dionysis Kalamatiadis

The new Deputy Parliamentary Representative is Vasilis Kokkalis, and the Coordinator of the Parliamentary Committee on Social Policy is Giota Poulou. The Deputy Coordinator remains Rallia Christidou.

Disagreement

It should be noted that Socrates Famellos had openly disagreed with SYRIZA PS President Stefanos Kasselakis during the Central Committee meeting last July when the issue of postponing the October Congress was raised.

Additionally, Socrates Famellos’s name was prominently mentioned in case a leadership race opened following a motion of no confidence.
