There are close to 530,000 freelancers and self-employed people who have linked their business account to the IRIS direct payment system, through which they can accept payments from their clients in real time.

The deadline for linking all liable freelancers and self-employed individuals expired on Monday, but according to information the National Economy Ministry will provide an informal extension of about a month before proceeding with the imposition of the fine, which is set at 1,500 euros for each freelancer or self-employed person who is not connected to IRIS and therefore does not give this payment option to their clients.

It is estimated that there are around 715,000 debtors and, based on the figures for the 530,000 already registered in the system, there are another 185,000 who will have to register within this informal period in order to avoid the fine.
