Urgent weather bulletin from EMY – Storm “Atena” brings rain, thunderstorms, and hail from the west

The storm “Atena” is approaching and is expected to cause a significant weather deterioration across Greece from Monday evening (09-09-24) until Wednesday afternoon (11-09-24). The storm will bring locally intense rain and thunderstorms, primarily affecting western, central, and northern mainland Greece, as well as the northern and eastern Aegean islands.

The weather phenomena will include frequent lightning, hailstorms, and strong gusty winds.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the following areas:

  1. From Monday night (09-09-24) to Tuesday afternoon (10-09-24) in the Ionian Islands, Epirus, western Central Greece, and the western Peloponnese.
  2. From late Tuesday morning (10-09-24) until late afternoon in western Macedonia, Thessaly, and eastern Central Greece.
  3. From early Tuesday afternoon (10-09-24) until Wednesday afternoon (11-09-24) in central and eastern Macedonia and the Sporades.
  4. From Wednesday morning to afternoon (11-09-24) in Thrace and the northern and eastern Aegean islands.
