Spinalonga lit up again

The effort to light up Spinalonga, the historic island that attracts crowds of tourists every year, was completed and as of Saturday evening, the lights were lit.

As the deputy mayor of Agios Nikolaos, Georgios Beloukas, had told the local newspaper Anatoli, the delay was because the work of refilling and certifying the fire extinguishers for the fire generator, fire extinguishers, had been undertaken by a company, which is one and only one in Crete based in Chania.

.

Due to the workload, the technicians’ transition to Spinalonga was delayed.

The power generator is surrounded by 6 100 kg fire extinguishers that run on carbon dioxide. The deputy mayor said they are renewed every 10 years and have expired since 2023.
