The allegations that “betrayed”

The countdown to deconstruct the activities of criminal organisations began after two women made complaints that something was wrong.

Specifically, an insured woman complained to the H.O.P.Y.Y. that on May 28, 2023, she received a message on her mobile phone regarding a prescription for the pharmaceutical preparation Hipnosedon from a doctor (involved) which was executed the next day at a certain pharmacy in Agios Panteleimon.

Similarly, the second insured complained to the E.O.P.Y.Y. that sixteen prescriptions, including a number of medicines, were issued to her A.M.K.A. during the period from 14-04-2015 to 11-11-2015 by the same doctor, all of which were executed at a pharmacy in Sepolia.

Thus began the investigation through which the action of the criminal organizations was revealed.

As it was found, the illegal activity of the groups began at least from January 2020, and as it turned out, they had a similar purpose, mode of action and common in some cases members who were active in parallel.

Specifically, it was found that the members of the two organizations having continuous activity and distinct roles, initially proceeded through their medical doctors-members in the systematic issuance of false prescriptions to persons -mainly foreigners- with false prescriptions.

These persons had either been removed from the country, or were incarcerated in Detention Centres, or were accommodated in various structures, so that they were unable to detect the false prescription. In fact, in order to maximize their profits, the members also used the ID cards of uninsured persons, as their contribution to the expenditure of the National Health Service was zero.

Then, through the companies/pharmacies of their members, they carried out fictitious prescriptions, signing execution documents instead of the insured persons, forging their signatures. The further distribution of the illegally prescribed pharmaceutical preparations was carried out through pharmacies and doctors to customers, both in Greece and abroad.
