Theodora Glucksburg: Getting married in Athens after two postponements – All the details on the preparations
The marriage of the daughter of the former King of Greece, Constantine, Theodora, to American lawyer Matthew Kumar is sure to be the social event of the season. Not only in terms of elegance and glamour but also because members of many royal families worldwide are expected to attend the ceremony in Greece.
Although the couple lives in the U.S. — she is an actress, and he is a distinguished lawyer — they decided to hold the wedding in Greece, as the former royal family has a deep love for the country and spends much time there.
The youngest daughter of the family had planned her wedding three times, but the pandemic and the passing of her father led to its postponement. Now, the time has come for her to walk down the aisle with her longtime partner, Matthew.
The ceremony is scheduled for next Saturday, September 28, at 5:30 p.m., at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral, the same church where her parents were married many years ago. The couple will follow the same protocol and use the same royal Cartier wedding crowns as Constantine and Anne-Marie.
The wedding gown will be a stunning creation by Celia Kritharioti. Celia and her team will present a uniquely aesthetic piece. The same designer is also responsible for Anne-Marie’s dress and the outfits for the bridesmaids.
Exclusive details on the grand event: The wedding rings have been ordered from the jewelry house “Vourakis,” the bridal bouquet is being made by Studio 7, while the wedding favors will most likely arrive from abroad.
Prince Pavlos will escort his sister to the church, as he is now the head of the family following the death of King Constantine, while Marie-Chantal is responsible for the aesthetic details of the invitations.
The coordination and execution of this complex project are in the hands of event expert Faye Vallidi. The guests will stay in various hotels around Athens and receive special treatment.
The pre-wedding dinner for 250 guests will take place next Friday in the gardens of the Byzantine and Christian Museum. This will be a seated dinner with music. The venue was rented by the former Greek royal family, with the condition that they cover the costs for maintaining the museum gardens (including plant renewal and equipment maintenance).
Members of royal families and international journalists are arriving in Greece for three days, with the foreign press focusing on the wedding and the dinner, where haute couture outfits will be in the spotlight.
Items from the museum will be used in the wedding, symbolizing the rich history of Greece and the deep religious traditions of the country.
The wedding reception promises to be mythical, filled with flowers, fragrances, and fine porcelain. The renowned One & Only hotel on the Athenian Riviera is already preparing to welcome the esteemed guests. Under tight security, the wedding dinner will be held there.
Glamour, sparkle, and a generous dose of royalty. The beloved French magazine Paris Match already has its next cover ready…
