Politico: Bullet sent to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in a letter

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico received a letter containing a bullet from an unknown sender, the Bratislava government announced on Wednesday. The Slovak police have taken over the investigation, according to the government’s press department in a statement to Politico.

This threat follows an assassination attempt on Fico in May, which shocked Europe and highlighted the deep polarization in Slovak society.

The man who shot Fico was identified as 71-year-old Juraj Cindula, who stated that he disagreed with the current government’s policies. He is currently in custody, facing charges of terrorism and potential sentences ranging from 25 years to life imprisonment.

Fico underwent several surgeries after sustaining life-threatening injuries during the shooting. In his first video appearance following the attack, he blamed the opposition for the incident.
