Batman becomes the first superhero to receive a star on the Hollywood walk of fame

Batman is the first superhero to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“Batman is one of the world’s most iconic characters, representing justice, strength, and bravery,” said Steve Nissen, president and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, during the star’s unveiling ceremony on Thursday.

“For over 85 years, Batman has appeared to fans in comics, animation, television, movies, toys, and video games. Batman has literally been everywhere, and now we are so proud that he is the first superhero to rightly land here to receive his very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” Nissen emphasized.

Batman is the 20th fictional character to receive a star on the Walk of Fame. Only 20 out of the total 2,780 stars represent fictional characters, making up just 0.01%, according to EW, which highlighted that the ceremony was truly a historic event.

It took 18 years for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to award the first star to a fictional character, Mickey Mouse. The other 18 stars have been awarded to TV families, animated pets, and live-action characters so iconic that they have surpassed the actors who portrayed them.

Batman was created for DC Comics by Bob Kane, with co-creator Bill Finger, and first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. Since then, the “Dark Knight” has remained a symbol of determination, courage, and justice.

Batman’s star is the 2,790th, located next to that of Adam West, the actor who first portrayed him on television, and co-creator Bob Kane.

Fans of the superhero gathered at the ceremony, some dressed in Batman costumes, while others held comics and memorabilia, hoping to get autographs from West’s co-star in the original TV series, Burt Ward, who played Robin.
