Dodecanese: 8 passengers of a sailing boat that sank near Levitha were rescued by helicopter

The 8 occupants of a sailing vessel flying the flag of France, which sank for an undetermined reason in the sea area 3.4 nautical miles off the island of “The Levitha” in Dodecanese, earlier today.

The rescued people were transported to Kos. The passengers of the sailboat, Polish nationals who managed to board an auxiliary boat of the sailboat, called for help via 112.

It is noted that winds of 7 Beaufort were blowing in the sea area.

A Hellenic Coast Guard OPV and a Navy frigate had rushed to the scene of the incident for assistance.
