Bulgaria Sends Firefighters to Greece to Assist in Wildfire Extinguishment

Bulgarian firefighters left for Greece today to help their colleagues in fighting the fires, the Interior Ministry said.

Bulgaria’s unit for extinguishing forest fires by ground means, i.e. vehicles, will participate in the efforts with 51 firefighters and 11 units of equipment. The assistance is provided within the framework of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, which has been activated by Greece.

The unit consists of firefighters from the General Directorate of Fire Safety and Civil Protection, the Sofia Directorate, and the regional fire safety and civil protection directorates in Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Plovdiv, and Sliven announced.
