Socratous Street: Albanian man arrested had been sentenced to life imprisonment in 2008 for drugs, released in 2015

New revelations have surfaced regarding the incident where an Albanian couple was arrested on Socratous Street after a random check by the Hellenic Police, during which a weapon, detonators, and explosives were found in their vehicle.

According to protothema.gr, the 39-year-old man, born in 1985, has a criminal history. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2008 for drug-related cases but was released in 2015.

The arrest occurred after a routine check by the Rapid Response Unit, when police stopped the vehicle he was in with his partner. During the search, they found a package containing explosives, detonators, and a Tokarev pistol, hidden in a blue bag.

The two were taken to the police station for further interrogation, and authorities are investigating the origin and intended use of the findings. The vehicle they were in was a leased car.

The details about the 39-year-old’s past raise serious concerns, as it appears he had never severed his ties with the criminal underworld.
