PASOK – Live update: Androulakis re-elected leader with 59.92% – “Big changes will happen when we are united,” he stated

Nikos Androulakis was re-elected as the president of PASOK, winning decisively in the second round of the elections with 59.92% against Haris Doukas, confirming his dominance within the party. He received 126,222 votes – fewer than the 139,000 he garnered in the 2021 elections, where he defeated George Papandreou. Apart from Crete, where he had his usual impressive results, Androulakis prevailed in all electoral regions, even in Athens, where his opponent was the mayor.

According to the final results, Haris Doukas received 40.08% or 84,512 votes. A total of 213,001 party members and supporters participated in the process, with 209,969 valid ballots.

In his victory speech, in front of a crowd gathered outside the PASOK headquarters on Charilaou Trikoupi Street, during halftime of the Greece-Ireland match, Androulakis pledged to move forward united, with all the candidates in the front line. He also extended an open invitation to those disappointed by the current government.

After the first aggregate results were announced, Haris Doukas called Nikos Androulakis to congratulate him on his re-election. In a statement from PASOK headquarters, Doukas emphasized that unity and the participation of everyone are essential for strengthening the party. “We continue together for a big and strong PASOK that can win,” he said, highlighting the importance of collective effort.

The phone calls

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also called Nikos Androulakis to congratulate him on his re-election. Mitsotakis expressed his desire to meet with the re-elected PASOK leader soon, emphasizing the importance of cooperation for the country’s political future. Similarly, Nikos Pappas, the president of the Parliamentary Group of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, congratulated Androulakis, wishing him strength in his role.

Michalis Katrinis also expressed his support for Androulakis, congratulating him and stating: “Congratulations to Nikos Androulakis on his election as PASOK President. He has the mandate of the citizens to make PASOK great and victorious.” Nadia Giannakopoulou also sent a congratulatory message, stating that she would be on the front line.

The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a phone conversation with Nikos Androulakis to congratulate him on his reelection, according to government sources.

Mr. Mitsotakis, the same sources report, expressed to Mr. Androulakis his desire to have a meeting soon.

UPDATE: Pavlos Geroulanos called Nikos Androulakis to personally congratulate him, as well as Charis Doukas, to emphasize that he looks forward to collaborating with him, both in PASOK and in Athens.

Georgios Papandreou, who is in Constantinople, had also a phone conversation with Nikos Androulakis after his victory in the internal party elections, as well as with Charis Doukas.
