New distinction for Greek shipping – Yannis Xylas elected president of INTERCARGO

Another international distinction for Greek shipping. Yannis A. Xylas, a traditional Greek shipowner, was elected president of the International Barge Owners Association-Intercargo, succeeding another traditional shipowner, Dimitris Fafalios.

The election took place during the Association’s Annual General Meeting held in London yesterday, Wednesday 15 October.

Yannis Xylas takes over from 1 January 2025, while Dimitris Fafalios, is handing over control of the INTERCARGO bridge after six years.

The Vice-Chairman of the Board remains Uttam Kumar Jaiswal of Pacific Basin Shipping Limited and Metaxia Psalti takes over from Spyros Tarasis.

Dimitris Fafalios reviewed the achievements during his term of office focusing on the health pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and the Middle East. He stressed that the focus is always on the safety of seafarers.

For his part, Yannis A. Xylas referred to the most important work of Dimitris Fafalios and his achievements during his tenure.

He spoke of his main priorities, which include maintaining the existing membership, spreading the importance of INTERCARGO to global shipping, and expanding its influence in any markets not significantly represented.
