Orban: EU incapable of ensuring readmission of illegal migrants

KOMARNO - Hungarian PM Viktor Orban said on Tuesday the EU was incapable of ensuring a readmission of illegal migrants.

Speaking to reporters after a trilateral summit with Slovak PM Robert Fico and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Komarno, Slovakia, Orban said the EU had received eight million asylum requests in 2015, registering 3.8 million attempts of illegal entry.

He said the EU had last year adopted a decision on readmission of 430,000 illegal migrants but that only 84,000 had been returned to their countries.

"Mr Fico was right in saying that 80 pct of those decisions cannot be carried out. That was foreseeable, and that is when the panic started. Western representatives are in panic, and when a person is in panic, they make wrong decisions," Orban said at a press conference with Fico and Vucic.
