2024 US Elections: Anger over Joe Biden’s comment – He called Trump supporters “garbage”

A chest-to-chest battle is expected between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump in the Nov. 5 election, particularly in the seven key swing states for the 60-year-old Democrat and the 78-year-old Republican, who have been making frequent appearances there.

In one of them – Pennsylvania – Trump, who is running for office for a third time, went to speak yesterday. That state has a large Puerto Rican community, many members of which didn’t get a joke by a stand-up comedian called Puerto Rico an “island of garbage” over the weekend during Mr Trump’s campaign speech in New York.

President Joe Biden reacted to the polemic yesterday by saying that the “only garbage” he sees “floating around” is Donald Trump’s “supporters,” in turn sparking the ire of Republicans, as the insult resembled the now famous “basket of deplorables” that Hillary Clinton had said referring to Trump’s supporters when she was running for President against him in 2016.

The Democratic outgoing president asserted that he was merely using the “rhetoric” of a comedian.

In Pennsylvania, Trump did not fail to once again refer to the migration problem, insisting that the US has become a “dumping ground” due to the massive influx of illegal immigrants.

“Nobody wants to see this. How do you win elections with that? You don’t win except by cheating, with this situation,” he added.
