Turkey continues to seek EU membership, Erdogan tells Macron

Turkey is acting with a strategic perspective towards full EU membership, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, on Thursday. 

Meeting in Budapest during the European Political Community Summit, Erdogan emphasized the importance of revitalizing Turkey's EU accession process, according to Turkey's Communications Directorate.

Erdogan expressed Ankara's hopes for the EU to modernize its customs union agreement with Turkey and to advance visa liberalization for Turkish citizens.

The two leaders also touched on various regional and global issues. Highlighting the "deep-rooted history" between Turkey and France, Erdogan noted that strengthening economic and trade ties would benefit both nations.
