Donald Trump triumphed in the US presidential election, seemingly achieving the ultimate results - that is, to control both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The global community is waking up to a new environment, as the 47th US president-elect, when he takes office in January, will promote an agenda in international affairs that differs in several ways from that of his predecessor.

The first point is the willingness of the US to distance itself from unnecessary fronts, such as that of Ukraine, but also in general the disengagement or rather the looser display of solidarity toward its partners. The new US president-elect has publicly questioned in the past the usefulness of Article 5 of NATO, essentially the quintessence of an organization with collective defense and security features.
