Will ‘Trumpism’ enter Greek politics?

Ten days after Donald Trump's win in the US presidential election, the government is shifting its focus from what it will mean for bilateral relations to a more complicated question: Will "Trumpism," a shorthand for right-wing populism, also become influential in Greek politics and threaten mainstream conservatism as embraced by most, but not all, ruling New Democracy politicians?

Close aides to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis are gaming four possible future scenarios, which they are calling "three dangers and an opportunity." A government source has told Kathimerini that "opportunity" is the more likely scenario.

For the time being, the government's chief opponent is socialist PASOK, following the deep troubles and split in the main opposition SYRIZA party. At least this opponent is a moderate one.
