No link between Pangrati arms cache and Ambelokipi incident, official tells Kathimerini

The arms cache discovered in a storage area of an apartment in the Athens neighborhood of Pangrati on Tuesday evening does not appear to be connected to the recent incident in the area of Ambelokipi, a senior official from the Ministry of Citizen Protection has told Kathimerini.

According to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, authorities believe the storage may have been used as a hideout by an earlier group from the so-called urban guerrilla movement, as the weapons and ammunition found there appear to have been stored for a long period of time.

If these assessments are confirmed, there could be a link between the cache and organizations such as the Popular Fighters Group, which ceased operations in 2018.
