PM: Gov’t will cover repairs to building where bomb went off

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has unveiled a program of state aid to support owners and tenants who lived in a building in Athens that suffered serious structural damage when a bomb exploded in an apartment last month.

The powerful explosion on October 31 on Arkadias Street in the central Ambelokipi neighborhood resulted in the death of a 36-year-old man, who is believed to have been assembling an explosive device.

The prime minister said that the government, having secured a private donation from a construction company, GEK Terna, will cover the cost of the restoration of the apartment building, which contains 44 properties, including nine commercial premises.

Residents will also be compensated for any household goods that were destroyed.
