A fire broke out on Sunday evening at a popular nightclub in the Pangrati area of central Athens, sparked by the candle on a birthday cake, leaving six people injured.

The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. as a waiter was delivering a birthday cake to a group celebrating at the venue. The candle on the cake accidentally set fire to Christmas decorations and a tree hanging from the ceiling.

Panic ensued as patrons scrambled to escape with some breaking windows to flee the premises. Six individuals sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital.

All attendees managed to evacuate and the nightclub staff extinguished the fire before it could spread further.

The fire department was called to the scene but the fire had already been brought under control.
