Israeli energy minister visits Athens to sign key agreement

Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen will visit Athens on Tuesday to sign a bilateral agreement with Greek Energy Minister Theodoros Skylakakis. 

The agreement will focus on the Greece-Cyprus-Israel electrical interconnection project (Great Sea Interconnector), which faces delays due to the slow progress of the Crete-Cyprus segment. 

Moreover, the agreement reportedly will include a wide range of energy collaborations, from renewable energy sources and energy storage to hydrogen projects.

This marks the first time Greece and Israel will sign a bilateral intergovernmental agreement on energy. Sources told Kathimerini that the initiative for the agreement came from the Israeli side.

During his one-day visit to Athens, Cohen, who is also a member of Israel's National Security Council, is also expected to meet with Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis.
