Greek Defense Ministry responds to Turkish minister over accusations on Aegean exploration

Sources at the Greek Defense Ministry on Wednesday responded to recent remarks by Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler, who accused Greece of violating international conventions by exploring energy reserves in the Aegean Sea.

Sources from the Defense Ministry in Athens said Greece remains firmly committed to international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), while adding that "positions which contradict international law do not contribute to fostering a climate of mutual trust or improving bilateral relations."

"In any case," they further stated, "the Greek Armed Forces stand as a guarantor of our national sovereignty and sovereign rights, as defined by the principles of the international legal order."
