Military academies’ dropout rates surge

Military academies in Greece are experiencing a surge in student dropouts, with one in four freshmen leaving their studies in 2024.

This trend has raised concerns about the challenging conditions and long-term career difficulties faced by cadets. The Hellenic Federation of Military Unions reported significant dropout rates across various academies, including a 42.1% dropout rate at the Naval Cadets School and 29% at the School of Non-Commissioned Officers.

The decline in interest is also reflected in the unfilled slots at these institutions, with around 450 positions remaining vacant this year. Lower entrance scores and fewer applicants who prioritize military careers contribute to this issue.
