Live updates: The Redevelopment of Faliriko Ormos – PM Mitsotakis present

The European Commission has approved an initial €93 million from the Cohesion Fund to support the redevelopment of a 540-hectare coastal park along Faliro Bay. This investment will transform the city’s waterfront into a green and vibrant space accessible to all.

The Metropolitan Park is an iconic project of the New European Bauhaus, a model of excellence for public investments, not only for Greece but for all of Europe. It harmoniously integrates people and nature, citizens and their environment.

This project sets a new benchmark for ecological restoration in a densely populated and degraded area. Its innovative design, inspired aesthetics, extensive tree planting, and rich natural restoration will not only enhance biodiversity but also provide the city with a green lung—a pleasant communal space for the people of Athens.

The park will be accessible to Athenians of all ages and will connect seamlessly with sustainable public transportation, offering a tranquil natural haven for the 4 million visitors expected annually.

Completion

The Metropolitan Park is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.
