Short-term rentals’ new rules

The "age of innocence" for short-term rentals is now officially coming to an end as two bills, by the ministries of Tourism and Finance, bring a new and stricter regulatory framework, and also impose additional fees.

At the same time, the Ministry of Tourism is given responsibility for inspecting suitability and compliance with the rules in this market. The objective is threefold: On the one hand, to protect the tourism product from arbitrariness and unsuitable properties, and to limit unfair competition, according to hoteliers, from uncontrolled short-term rentals; and, on the other hand, to increase state revenue from this activity. In addition, an attempt is being made to remove social dissatisfaction with the lack of affordable housing rentals, discouraging owners from this activity and encouraging them to return their properties to the long-term rental market.
