Police bust gang dealing drugs to schoolkids

Police in Athens say they have busted a gang that was dealing drugs to schoolgoers in the city.

Ten people, including eight minors, were arrested as part of the operation, which took place on Monday.

Police said the swoop prevented the distribution of a large amount of cannabis to pupils who were about to embark on the five-day school tour that afternoon.

The arrested individuals were charged with possession of drugs, weapons, fireworks and flares as well as membership of a criminal gang.

Seven others are included in the case file, including the parents of the minors for neglecting their supervision.

A search of a number of homes of those arrested yielded almost 1 kilogram of cannabis, divided into 319 bags and ready for distribution to those going on the tour.
