19-year-old sentenced to one year imprisonment for vandalism at Thessaloniki metro

A 19-year-old received a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for three years, for spray-painting walls and glass at the Venizelos station of Thessaloniki's Metro.

"I did it for my girlfriend, to impress her," he admitted, confessing to writing the word "H.A.T.E." (Heart A. [his name] To E. [his girlfriend's name])in four places.

He expressed regret, acknowledging the act was wrong and that he had no right to damage public property.

The court found him guilty of damaging public-use property, granting him leniency for his young age. His arrest on Sunday was the first for vandalism since the Metro began operations.
