Mild earthquakes in Athens, further tremor not ruled out

Two mild earthquakes shook Athens early Wednesday evening, sparking concern across the city.  

Despite their low magnitudes on the Richter scale, both tremors were sensed across Athens as a result of their shallow focal depths. 

Seismologists remain reassuring, though they do not rule out the possibility of another earthquake of similar magnitude.

The first earthquake, measuring 2.3 on the Richter scale, occurred at 5:10 p.m., with an epicenter located 3 km southwest of Halandri, northern Athens, and a depth of 8.7 km.

The second, occurring at 7.29 p.m. and measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale, also had its epicenter 3 km southwest of Halandri, with a focal depth of 6.8 km.
