Athens metro workers strike Friday over pay and job security
A work stoppage has been announced by the Athens Metro Workers' Union (SELMA) for Friday. Metro trains will cease operation from 9 p.m. until the end of the shift.
The union demands the resolution of issues related to hazardous duty pay, requesting retroactive payment through a ministerial decision.
Another key issue is the release of funds for private health insurance and medical checkups for 2,500 workers, which are reportedly withheld despite being allocated.
The union also highlighted the planned dismissal of 220 employees working under a government program, warning that their departure would severely impact ticket sales and inspection services.
