One dead in migrant shipwreck off southern Crete

Authorities have recovered a body after a boat carrying migrants capsized southwest of the Cretan island of Gavdos.

It is understood that the coast guard have rescued 37 people, while five passing boats, an Italian frigate and an Air Force Super Puma helicopter are assisting in a search and rescue operation.

The search began on Friday evening, when authorities received an emergency call.
