50,000 cars in Cyprus face recall

Cyprus could see up to 50,000 cars recalled due to defective airbags that have been seen as responsible for numerous deaths and injuries around the world, including in Cyprus.

The large number of vehicles facing a recall was revealed by lawmaker Stavros Papadouris on Friday, who went on to say that only around 800 replacement airbags are currently available, well short of the number of affected vehicles.

There are already 11,181 Mazda Demio cars that have been imported into Cyprus from third countries under recall because they are equipped with the faulty passenger-side Takata airbags. This situation is about to worsen with an additional 50,000 vehicles, as the upcoming recall is for those with faulty driver-side airbags.
