Musk vs. Reuters: “They took $300 million to investigate me”

Elon Musk has been targeting the legacy media in recent weeks, particularly after the U.S. elections, with Reuters being his latest focus.

The head of Tesla, SpaceX, and the social network X shared a post by Mike Benz, head of the Foundation for Freedom Online, who reveals that the news agency received substantial sums from the US government.

In his post, Benz states that during the four years of Biden’s presidency, government departments and independent agencies awarded Thomson Reuters, the company that owns the news agency, government contracts exceeding $300 million.

Also, Benz adds, 11 different government agencies have targeted Elon Musk’s companies. These are the same agencies that paid millions to Reuters.

This year, Reuters won the Pulitzer Prize for its reporting on Musk and alleged “irregularities” in his businesses.

Benz cites a database of US government contracts and agreements. For the fiscal years 2021-2025, meaning from October 2020 to today, the contracts with Thomson Reuters exceed $300 million.

Reuters has not yet commented on Musk’s post.
