Turkey – Fidan: If Israel does not respect Syria’s sovereignty, then there are “other means” to ensure it
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan issued threats against Israel in statements made to MEMRI TV, prompted by the raids on military facilities in Syria and the increased activity of the Israeli army in the Golan Heights.
Referring to the recent developments in Syria and Israel’s stance, the Turkish Foreign Minister emphasized, “The new Syrian government will not clash with Israel if the latter respects Syria’s territorial sovereignty,” adding in a threatening tone, “If it does not, then ‘other means’ may be applied.”
“Israel considers any government that aims to represent all of its people a threat. The Israeli government did not want Assad to leave. They might have been displeased by the fact that Assad gave space to Iran, but they were generally satisfied with him on a personal level,” Fidan said in another part of his statement.
“Israel wants to ensure maximum security in certain areas and considers the worst-case scenarios, which is why it bombards Syria. This is unacceptable. It is trying to impose itself on a sovereign country without any justification,” the Turkish Foreign Minister commented.
